Hi folks,

This is Harreson, Julia's brother with an update and corrections.

Speaking with our mom yesterday (Thursday), she told me that the motorcycle memorabilia could stay. I was relieved to hear that. However, I ask for understanding should our parents change their mind again after the funeral and their devastating loss.

The correct spelling of our family name is SIT (no double "T"). My name is an exception as I undertook the legal process to change my surname to SITO.

One could say that Julia was the manager of the Flying Swan, not the owner. She could also be looked upon as the owner/creator of the Flying Swan in the sense that the Blue Moon Cafe/Flying Swan were results of her creativity and energy, and the Span Grill, in which the Blue Moon Cafe/Flying Swan Coffeehouse are located, was our parents business.

Julia implemented changes which significantly improved our business. She left a concierge position at the Marriott Hotel where she was awarded Employee of the Month (perhaps even several times, but I'm not sure) and where she was greatly loved and appreciated to come back and help with the family business.  Julia initially put up the capital herself to pay for the changes to the tables, chairs, dishes and decor into the current incarnation that we know as the Flying Swan Coffeehouse.

The cafe is back to business and we welcome motorcyclists and friends to come (but no flowers please. I will check if a card is appropriate). A verbal offering of condolence is appreciated. One of Julia's motorcycle friends, Barry Weinbaum, did give me a beautiful picture of Julia that he had taken. If you feel so moved, then please direct any pictures to me.

be well,
Harreson

Cool   Thanks Harreson!!!

I'm glad Barry passed that photo on to you.... He is a rather accomplished photographer et al.  (!)
And, he will be extending Julia's legacy on to the broad motoring
community in his role as member of the Advisory Council of BCCOM
and his other extended contact network of associations in North
America  (his brother is in MENSA .... )
   Peace, virgil   Cool

I only met Julia twice but she left such an impression that it moved me to cut a sign for her that she could hang on the Swan

I'm new to this web site but not new to the world of bikes. I didn't know Julia personally but I know girls who rode on Tuesdays with her. I ate at the Swan a few time before going on rides with friends. I just wanted to say that my heart and thoughts are with her parents and the people who were close to her

RIP Julia, you now can carve the roads we as riders only dream of riding.

Hi folks,

Harreson, Julia's brother here. Speaking with my parents today, it is fine to send cards to the cafe. If you are moved to visit also, that is appreciated. Bear in mind, their English is not so good but they will understand the caring intention behind the visit. I will be back at work in the cafe starting from this Sunday on, so there might be a good possibility that I will be there.

So, in short:
cards/visits are okay, flowers are not.

blessings,
Harreson

To those who wish to visit the memorial site, here are the directions.

The memorial is located 4 1/2 km north of the intersection at hwy 1 and hwy 7 (on hwy 1).

When you see American Creek Road, slow down.  Up a little ways is Two Lane Road to the right, pull off there and park.

There is a rather large white cross with photos and flowers across the hwy from that, can't miss it. There is a little room to safely stand off to the side of the road but watch out for the wind from the trucks zooming by, its quite powerful.

If you do go, please BRING WATER as there are some plants and flowers planted at the memorial and they would greatly appreciate a drink, esp if the weather is dry.

On the homepage, it says to arrive at the Swan between 7am and 8:30 to leave by 9am to Julia's funeral.

Am I correct in assuming the Swan will not be open?

I was at the scene. There was nothing to be done. She'd gone instantly.

I thought to look online and search using her name, to find out who this person might have been. (Wow)
Was she an experienced rider? (Wow!!)

The entries in this thread alone speak volumes and hint broadly at how many she must have influenced and impressed in her time. I wish I'd met her.

I too don't know what might have caused it. Nothing visible gave a hint.
The corner isn't so very difficult but does have poor oncoming traffic visibility and virtually no camber. But she was so familiar with it...
Oddly enough, 33 years ago I was in a single car single occupant rollover  MVA in the same ditch not fifty feet from where she left the road. I don't know how that happened either.

Ms. Sit was obviously so well loved and so missed that I am humbled by the outpouring shown here.
What a staggering loss. My heart goes out to those bearing it in such grief.
What a fine person, to be snatched away...

When I ride I think of you
Your smiling face and loving eyes
Are in my mind
At the break of dawn with early morning dew
Your spirit greets me as I ride all day
The sunset I chase, is you

Your sweet friendly voice haunts me
I can still hear your funny little laugh
You are riding in front of me, next to me and behind me
I feel safe knowing you are there
I can see a beautiful rainbow
That you created, just to say hello

The stars shine brightly tonight
Guiding me as I ride towards your sunrise
I see your face in the white clouds
Smiling down on me, such a sweet surprise
As I ride towards your ray of light
The next sunset I chase, is you

This is terrible news. I hadn't been on the vrom site for the past couple weeks and I come online to see this news. What a loss to family, friends, and the motorcycle community. I always looked forward to visiting and riding with Julia and the crew the few times every year I'm over from Victoria. Three shining stars now amoung the many looking down upon us.

My condolences,

Shaun
