The Golden Ears Bridge opening ceremonies are scheduled for June 14th.
Depending on construction, the opening for traffic will be "Before June 30th."
Sadly, our old friend the Albion Ferry is due to cease operations on July 31st.

The tolls and collection methods are outlined in a website now.
http://www.quickpasstolling.ca:80/
We will be able to register our vehicles and/or obtain a transponder to permit lower toll rates.
Transponders will require a $10 deposit and a $1/month fee.
This means that one return trip over the bridge per month makes the transponder worthwhile.

Even if you don't lease a transponder, at least register your license plate - a free service.

I hope everyone boycotts the bridge until they remove the toll. This is just the thin edge of the wedge folks. More tolls are to come if this is a success for Translink. They are removing a ferry, so they should replace it with a bridge (NOT a toll bridge). Next thing they will charge a toll on every bridge as it gets replaced due to age! After that... tolls on roads as they are re-surfaced. Where does the taxation end and the SERVICE begin for the taxes we already pay? If they keep taxing us, we will all go broke and the country will implode.

Cool Paul, you couldn't be more correct, as to the ongoing long-term ramifications of over-taxation!  Shocked

I lost motivation to fight this kind of New-Age governmental non-sense since Democracy died
about 15 years ago! I see that even the Fraser Institute is silent now too: it used to be in
the Press almost monthly against such governmental incompetence!  Cry

At issue, is not them merely deciding to toll us to our death beds, but a deliberate Displacement
Technique at its WORST: they keep general taxes low or down as a "stunt" to get elected, re-elected,
u-name-it but turn around an nickel and dime us to death with even worse HIDDEN Taxation!
Because we don't overtly detect their wily ways in hidden taxation, they get away with it!  Wink Shocked Sad

It all started with the GST. And went down hill from that! Next huge hit was Parking Meters!
Then, Photo Radar! This was so Satanic that even "they" realized they'd better kill it before we kill them!
If you were to add up all the hidden layers of direct taxes we pay at the till, you'd vomit!!!

As Mike Walker of the Fraser Institute coined it in the '80's:
-If it moves, tax it!
-If it keeps moving, surcharge it!
-If it stops moving, subsidize it!

That's our great Governmental incompetance at work in all the pseudo parties!!!
