besides talking with him at many events, the most fond memory i have of Virgil, besides his welcoming smile. i was riding up the back road to merrit, and followed this noisy cruiser. the rider was quite capable on the corners, and i thought to myself, '' what a crazy bastard, he can really ride that bike''.  as i pulled into the next fuel stop, i saw that the rider was Virgil, and he had the biggest smile. he was riding on Pete's old Meanstreak!   RIP Virgil, you will be greatly missed Cry

This morning the first message I saw, was Darius posting on his dad's wall: "May God take you into his arms." I kinda read it twice, and wondered, why is he posting this on Virgils wall. I was thinking the worse, but at the same time thought, no this can't be. Virgil always being happy, positive and just a wonderful person and friend.

Sorry to hear it is true. RIP, my friend, enjoy the next step in your life.

We will all miss you

Robert

P.S. Darius, if there is anything we can do to help, I'm sure all VROMIES will be there to help you in this hard times, just let us know.

Hi some of you might know me, while other might not. I am a member of VROM & BCCOM, and while I am not very active within the club, I do come out to many of the events like the toy run, burns ride and so on.

Virgil was my friend and riding partner on many of these events over the years, as I am sure you were friends as well and have ridden with him many times too. The last two rides I was with him on, was the toy run and before that the Dad

I did not know Virgil for very long, we met back in summer of 2004 at a VROM event, my first ever meeting with this group.  We hit it off well and soon became good friends. Virgil and I went on many of the group rides through not just VROM, but many other group rides like that of Dad

virgil was a bright light and saw the best in people. he tagged along with me at the back of the pack when i got back on the motorcycle for the first time in 20 years for my sister's first memorial ride back in 2005. he was a big hearted soul and i'm sure that his actions on this earth have given him a ticket to heaven and back to God.

let the angels rejoice his return!

I remember Virgil as a constant support during long rides, especially as a new rider!  My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends!!!  Ride on!!!

this is certainly bad news.

I remember his contagious smile and his views of the world.  While we only went on one ride and had a few lunches together I considered him a true friend.

He left us too soon.  condolences to the family, he will be missed

The funeral mass for Virgil will be held...

Saturday May 22 2010
1pm

St. Edmund's Church

In lieu of flowers, our dad would have preferred that donations be made to organizations committed to growth.  Contact information for these organizations will be forthcoming in another email.

2. Child's Gate To Learning (Chicago)

Thank you,
Simon and Darius

So saddened when I heard the news of Virgil's passing ... I will miss his enthusiasm, his wisdom and his kind and generous spirit (not to mention the thought provoking philosophical debates!) Rest in peace my friend.

Hello everyone, this is Darius, Virgil's son.  I know some of you from the days of Bog and Julia, TBR, etc.

Tomorrow my dad was scheduled to go for a weekend ride with my highschool and college friend Greg, who recently returned to riding after a 5 year absence.  He, my dad, and I actually completed the BC Safety Council course together some 10+ years ago.  Tomorrow he and I will meet at the Swan for  breakfast and a casual ride to Squamish, with my dad's bike.
If anyone wants to join, please do.

Today was his funeral mass at St Edmund's parish in N.Van.  It was beautiful.  I was honored to see and speak with some of the great people who knew him, and he them.

Below is something I wrote about my dad this morning.  Peace to you all.  Keep growing, and stay real, as my dad was.

Darius

Virgilijus Alexander Kaulius was known to his sons as Te (for Tevas, Lithuanian for dad), Virgil to his many friends, and Virg to family.

Virgil lived a challenging life, one of some suffering, but one also filled with joy and laughter.  He loved people from all walks of life and all areas of living.  Everywhere he went, he tended to stir up conversation and challenged people to grow.  He made a point of knowing something of substance about the people around him, and usually left them with a message of growth in intellect or spirituality. Whether they wanted it or not!

Virgil was born on April 24, 1943 in Kretinga, Lithuania.  In 1944, with the invasion of the country by Soviets, he and his parents Zita and Adam along with his elder brother Eugene fled to Germany where they lived in Displaced Person (refugee) camps for six years.  There his sister Bangoula (Joanne), brother Kornelius (Kor) were born.  In 1950 the family moved to Bisset Manitoba where his dad was employed in mining.  In 1954, the family, now larger with the arrival of his younger brother Victor and sister Milda, moved to Vancouver BC, where Virgil attended school, worked in the local saw mill, delivered groceries, and assisted in repairing the family
