Hellooooooo everyone...

My best friend and I are going up to Dawson creek to visit a friend of ours, and because I need to go away or I'm going to go nuts...

We're driving, as she isnt a biker and I wouldn't be able to stand having a passenger on a 500 for the 13 hours it takes to get up there...

So.  I'm wondering if there's any cool places to see as we head up.  I don't care so much with the twisty roads (it's just not the same in a cage!), but cool places to stop would be awesome!  Thanks!

You could drop by and see my grandad..... just kidding.

On the way up, just after Quesnel (I think), there is a place called Barkerville. I know, it's a touristy kind of place, but still worth a look, if your into old gold mining places.

There is also a big dam up north somewhere that is worth a look.

--------------------

W.A.C. Bennett Dam
Peace River Generation Facilities are located near the town of Hudson's Hope in northeast British Columbia. Take Highway 29 to Hudson's Hope, approximately 65 km north of Chetwynd and 80 km west of Fort St. John. In Hudson's Hope, at the junction of Highway 29 and Canyon Drive, follow the signs 21 km west along Canyon Drive to the Visitor Centre. The road is well marked.

---------------------------

Also, Dawson Creek is mile "O" of the Alaska Highway. There is a famous sign post in town that says that. Take your picture there if you want (everyone else does).

Just a couple suggestions....

Barkerville is awsome. I haven't been since I was little (younger). I wonder how much it's changed in the last 20 years?

Oh I think there is the Worlds Largest Burl up there too, those knot thingys that grow on trees...thing was massive, but I was only 9 at the time

Mother Theresa cinnamon bun   Scott, I haven't laughed so hard in a long time - tnx -  Barkerville is awesome - it has changed (now they charge) but it's still an a great bang for the buck - they have great street performers in period costumes, shows at the "Hanging Judge Begbie" courthouse, a great period restaurant....worth stopping.  Actually, there is a book called "Travel BC" (updated every year) which takes you mile by mile on whatever highway you go and it gives EVERYTHING there is to see and do - hours of operation, cost, hotels, food, museums - it's worth every penny (About $20)  Have a great trip Allison. :!:

Just so ya'll know, I arrived safe and sound back in Vancouver this evening!

Barkerville was COOL.  We didn't have a lot of time to hang around (we wandered around in the afternoon/evening and stayed in one of the B&B's IN the actual village part, and then wandered around a bit more in the morning) but the stuff we did see what phenomenal.  I want to go back!

I didn't see the world's largest knot on a tree, or whatever it was...  I saw TONS of bikes tho (I saw more bikes in Dawson Creek than in Vancouver)... the weather hardcore sucked tho (really cold, I thought I overheard someone say it might even snow... and it rained the whole time we were there.  We didn't even get the promised thunderstorm with crazy lightning either!).

I wanted to stop by and see Julia, but I forgot to look it up before we left DC, and then didn't get a chance to get at the 'net before we hit Hope today...

Highway 97 on a bike would be so much fun... especially in the Fraser Canyon area... *drools all over herself*.  It was beautiful scenery, and of course it was sunny by the time we made it back to Vancouver!
